Orion and MaxMyInterest Team Up to Make Your Client’s Money Work Harder
Orion has integrated with MaxMyInterest to enable financial advisors to help clients earn higher, fully FDIC-insured interest rates—up to 1.71%—on their liquid cash by automatically transferring funds to accounts with the best rates, while allowing advisors to view these cash balances within Orion Connect as part of the overall portfolio allocation.
Interest rates are up after a decade of being at near-zero for many depositors. While some investors are taking advantage of preferential rates, many are leaving money on the table by keeping cash in accounts with low interest rates, generating less return than they could be.
Investors may want to keep assets in cash for various reasons, such as wanting to buy a house or building an emergency fund. Historically, keeping cash liquid and sacrificing returns has been the way to do so.
That doesn’t have to be the case.
With Orion’s integration with MaxMyInterest ("Max"), advisors can help deliver among the highest interest rates in the industry to clients, all fully FDIC-insured and fully liquid. With Max, clients can access preferential rates—currently up to 1.71%—through automatic transfers to accounts with the highest rate.
Additionally, these cash balances can be viewed directly in Orion Connect and allocated as part of a client’s overall asset allocation.
Max is a solution for advisors looking to deliver higher yield on client cash. It also allows advisors to grow their business by offering rates better than brick-and-mortar banks while still providing clients with the level of service they expect.
The initial integration
Orion and Max initially teamed up to offer single sign-on (SSO) functionality, allowing for seamless transitions from Max to Orion Connect.
Once logged into Max, users could link their custodians (such as Fidelity, Charles Schwab, or Bank of America). From there, users determine how much cash Max can access to move around, and Max does the rest. Max scans for the best interest rates from different online banks and brick-and-mortar institutions where users have accounts, and transfers funds automatically to get investors the best returns.
While this was beneficial, it didn’t allow advisors to view cash balances alongside the rest of the portfolio. This led to further improvements.
What’s new
Now, cash balances appear in both Orion Connect for the advisor and the Orion Client Portal for the client as part of an account in Orion. These balances can be categorized or classified appropriately.
With this added flexibility and functionality, because the balances are now pulled into Orion Connect, they can be accounted for in the reports advisors already use. This centralizes information, saving time for everyone involved.
